Three individuals have pleaded guilty to misleading the police following the death of Karen Youdell, a mother of four.
On July 23, 2023, Karen Youdell, aged 49, was found severely injured outside a house on Rosebank Road in Newton Heath. She was airlifted to a hospital and spent nine months in a vegetative state before passing away on May 8, the following year, at the age of 50.
Dean Johnstone, aged 43, has admitted to murdering her. On April 28, during the first day of their trial, Glenn Nelson, 39; Yvonne Johnstone, 45; and Lisa Johnstone, 43, each pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by providing false narratives regarding the incident that led to Ms. Youdell's injuries.
During the hearing, administrative issues were reviewed, and pre-sentence reports were requested.
Dean Johnstone, whose address is unspecified; Yvonne Johnstone from Amos Street, Moston; and both Lisa Johnstone and Glenn Nelson from Scotland Hall Road, Newton Heath, are scheduled to be sentenced on June 24.
While the three defendants were granted bail until the next session, Dean Johnstone remains in custody.
Ms. Youdell was remembered by her family as a ‘loving, vibrant, and radiant soul’ who truly valued life.
Leanne Youdell, Ms. Youdell’s daughter, shared her feelings with the Manchester Evening News at the time of her mother’s passing: “She was honestly so energetic and really bright. She was just so full of life, spoke to everyone, and loved being active. I keep waiting for her to call me.”
“It’s surreal; it happened in an instant. I feel like my life will never be the same.”
