On May 12, 2025, a man suffered "serious injuries" after being struck by a van on Bleasdale Street in Royton during the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene following reports of the incident at approximately 1:45 AM.

Police cordoned off the area while forensics officers began their investigation, collecting evidence and photographing the scene. Two men, one in his 60s and another in his 30s, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed, "A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. A man in his 30s and a man in his 60s have been arrested on suspicion of assault and they remain in police custody for questioning. A cordon remains in place while enquiries are ongoing."

Residents reported witnessing flashing lights through their windows, with one stating, "During the night, we saw flashing lights, we saw it through the bedroom window." Another added, "We came in at about 6 AM and it was like that," referring to the police tape surrounding the area.

Despite the late-night chaos, some residents noted that their experience was typical of the area, with one remarking, "I didn't hear anything unusual; I would have called the police if I had."

As forensics officers worked, eyewitnesses expressed their surprise at the unfolding events, with one stating, "I thought what the bl**dy hell's that all about?"
