A woman experienced a terrifying ordeal in Wythenshawe when her ex-lover, Jerrel Coppell, locked her inside a house and threatened her with violence. Coppell, aged 24, flew into a rage after the woman attempted to end their short relationship, eventually trapping her along with his sister.
The incident escalated as Coppell grabbed the woman by her neck and threatened her life. The victim only managed to escape by promising to contact him again. A lengthy community order was issued to Coppell by the court after he pleaded guilty to affray, with the judge highlighting the potential for rehabilitation outside of prison.
The victim, who has remained anonymous to protect her children, described the intense trauma she faced and the ongoing impact on her life, revealing she requires twice-weekly counselling. She expressed fear of encountering Coppell in public, especially when with her children.
Coppell was diagnosed with "significant" mental health issues, which will be addressed through his community order. His defense attorney acknowledged his need to step back from intimate relationships and focus on self-improvement.
