Woman Jailed for Theft Campaign in Manchester

Barbara Osmanovic, 36, has been jailed for a series of thefts targeting vulnerable and disabled individuals in Manchester. Her campaign involved stealing purses and making fraudulent withdrawals from victims' bank accounts.

At Manchester Crown Court, Osmanovic, from Old Trafford, admitted to theft, fraud, attempted burglary, and possession of a knife. She was sentenced to 30 months in custody.

One notable incident involved a woman on a mobility scooter shopping in Eccles town centre. Osmanovic approached her in a Morrisons store and later stole her purse, containing bank cards and personal mementos. The thief quickly withdrew £1,640 from the victim's accounts.

Days later, Osmanovic targeted another elderly woman in a Manchester Marks and Spencer's food hall. Her purse, containing family photos and a St Christopher medal, was stolen.

Osmanovic's criminal record includes 13 previous convictions for 29 offences, primarily related to theft and handling stolen goods. Her defense cited a history of drug addiction following personal tragedy.

The court remarked on the targeted nature of her crimes, emphasizing her persistent offending despite previous community sentences.
