Wigan Police Pursuit: Teenagers Arrested After Stolen Car Crash

On January 14, at approximately 9.30am, three teenagers fled from a suspected stolen car following a police pursuit that ended with a crash. Reports of the car being stolen were received early that morning from a property on Northumberland Street in Wigan.

The police were able to track down the vehicle, but it was driven away at high speed. The chase concluded unexpectedly when the car crashed on Wigan Road in Standish.

Fortunately, Greater Manchester Police reported that there were no serious injuries resulting from the collision. However, the three occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot in an attempt to evade arrest.

Dramatic aerial footage from a helicopter provided by the National Police Air Service captured the moment the trio abandoned the car. The video shows the suspects being pursued by officers in Standish.

In the footage, the three suspects can be seen exiting a blue car as unmarked police vehicles approach. The crash also caused damage to a nearby wall, with bricks littering the ground.

Police arrested two 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of burglary. As of Wednesday, they remain in custody for further questioning. Investigators suspect that the trio may be connected to additional burglaries.

Detective Sergeant Sophie O'Rourke from GMP's Wigan district commented on the incident: "This situation highlights the dangers of evading capture and the potentially severe consequences. I would like to express my gratitude to the public for reporting their concerns, which allowed us to track the suspects' movements and utilize our specialist resources effectively."

She added, "Burglary, especially involving vehicles, deeply impacts victims. We are committed to following every lead in our investigations to achieve justice."
