West Yorkshire Police Investigate Fraud Case Involving Elderly Victim

West Yorkshire Police are investigating a fraud case involving an elderly woman who was swindled out of tens of thousands of pounds. They are seeking information regarding a man pictured in a CCTV still.

The incident occurred in Huddersfield when the woman, described as vulnerable, received a cold call from a man impersonating a police officer who was supposedly investigating financial crime. Over the course of several hours, he gained her trust and obtained her banking details.

After building rapport, the suspect met the victim in person and defrauded her of a significant amount of money. Authorities are urging the public to help identify the man, who is known to frequent areas such as Manchester city centre, Leeds city centre, and the Trafford Centre.

The suspect is described as Asian, approximately 6ft tall, of stocky build with dark curly hair.

Detective Constable Callum Wallace from Kirklees District CID stated, "This was a despicable offence in which the suspect preyed on an elderly and vulnerable female victim, gained her trust, and then abused that trust to defraud her of significant sums of money. We are pursuing several leads and have released a CCTV image of a man we wish to speak with. I encourage anyone with information to come forward."

He further advised residents to remain vigilant against such scams, noting that law enforcement or bank officials would never ask for personal banking details through cold calls. If you receive such a call, do not provide any information and hang up immediately.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the image is urged to contact Kirklees CID at 101.
