Tragic Incident at Cheadle Hulme Nursery

The hearts of many were touched as the trial jury listened to the heart-wrenching statements from the parents of nine-month-old Genevieve Zofia Meehan. She tragically passed away after being allegedly strapped face-down by a nursery worker at Tiny Toes Nursery, Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.

Prosecutors claimed that Genevieve was tightly swaddled by Kate Roughley, the deputy nursery manager, leaving her helpless. Allegedly, she ignored the child's cries, covering her further with a blanket.

On May 9, 2022, Genevieve was found unresponsive in the afternoon, and paramedics were unable to save her life. Ms. Roughley has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and child cruelty charges at Manchester Crown Court.

Genevieve's mother, Katie Wheeler, shared touching memories of her beautiful daughter, affectionately called "Gigi" at home due to her French name. Despite being born prematurely, she had been in good health before the incident.

Recollections of a joyous weekend prior to the tragedy were shared, where little Gigi was lively, moving about with determination, and making her family laugh with her playful antics.

The day of the incident unfolded like any other, with Gigi in her usual mischievous spirits. However, the day took a tragic turn when her father, John Meehan, received a devastating call about his daughter's condition.

Despite all efforts, the hospital staff were unable to revive Genevieve. Her untimely passing has led to the ongoing trial to seek justice for her tragic demise.
