Thomas Cashman, a 34-year-old drug dealer, will be sentenced for the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel. The incident occurred on August 22 of last year, when Cashman shot the young girl inside her home.
During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, Cashman was found guilty by a jury. His sentencing will take place today, April 3, at the same court, led by Justice Amanda Yip. The proceedings will be streamed live, with Cashman expected to receive life imprisonment.
The shooting took place in the Dovecot area of Manchester. Cheryl Korbel, Olivia's mother, was also wounded during the event as Cashman chased another drug dealer, Joseph Nee, into their home. A jury found Cashman guilty of attempted murder of Nee and possession of firearms with intent to endanger life.
Evidence shown during the trial included footage of a gunman chasing Nee and firing shots. Despite Cashman's denial of being present, a key witness testified against him, revealing that he sought refuge at her house after the shooting.
The emotional court conclusions saw Cashman weeping upon hearing the verdict, while Olivia's family, including her mother, expressed their grief and remembrance during the trial's end.
