At approximately 6.15am on Saturday, January 25, a suspected stolen black Mercedes-Benz crashed into the front of a house on Harrop Street in Abbey Hey, east Manchester.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a nearby residence on Butterton Drive. Photos from the scene depict severe damage to the property following the collision.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and multiple driving offences.
Authorities are currently searching for a second individual who is believed to have fled the scene. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and gas engineers from Cadent, remained on-site to ensure safety.
The vehicle was cleared from the scene around 9.45am. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed the arrest of the 19-year-old man and stated: "Another man is thought to have fled from the scene and we are actively pursuing enquiries to identify and locate this individual." Thankfully, no injuries were reported, although significant damage occurred to the property.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) added: “At around 6.25am, fire crews responded to reports of a road traffic collision on Harrop Street. Two fire engines from Gorton station, alongside the technical rescue unit from Ashton, were quickly dispatched to the location, where the car had impacted a semi-detached home. GMFRS crews are collaborating with GMP, Cadent Gas, and Manchester City Council to ensure the safety of the building.”
