A violent incident in Altrincham's town center has left one man dead and another injured. The trial at Manchester Crown Court revealed details about the tragic events that occurred on August 21.
Rico Burton, 31, lost his life in the early hours during a mass altercation outside King Pong bar, where he was stabbed in the neck by Liam O'Pray. O'Pray, 22, denies charges of murder and wounding with intent on Harvey Reilly.
The court heard that O'Pray armed himself with a lock knife, inflicting a fatal wound on Mr. Burton. All parties involved had been at bars around Goose Green throughout the night. Tensions escalated when O'Pray was denied re-entry to a bar, threatening staff with revenge.
The confrontation culminated outside the King Pong bar, where O'Pray and another man, Malachi Hewitt-Brown, were involved in a brawl with other patrons. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with O'Pray allegedly attacking Mr. Burton and slashing Mr. Reilly in the ensuing melee.
Mr. Burton succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while Mr. Reilly was treated for significant blood loss. O'Pray was apprehended at the scene, found in possession of drugs, and the bloodied knife was seized by authorities.
The prosecution argues that O'Pray's actions were unlawful and intentional. The trial is expected to span two to three weeks as further evidence and testimonies unfold.
