Today at Manchester Piccadilly station, a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident that left a woman in her 40s injured. Fortunately, the victim is now in stable condition after receiving urgent treatment in hospital.
According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), authorities believe this was a targeted attack by someone known to the victim.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 4pm, with emergency services called to the junction of Church Street and Hope Street in Dukinfield, Tameside. Investigators have focused their efforts on this area, including the vicinity of Ravensfield Primary School, where door-to-door enquiries were conducted.
A spokesperson for Ravensfield Primary School addressed the situation on their Facebook page, stating: "There was an incident off school premises this evening. All the children are safe."
GMP reported that, with the assistance of British Transport Police and their Force Critical Wanted Unit, the suspect was detained at approximately 10.30am today and taken into custody for questioning.
Neither the suspect nor the victim have been named publicly. Detective Inspector Lisa Devitt reassured the public, stating, "We understand the shock this incident will cause both in Tameside and further afield, but we are confident this was a targeted attack and there is no threat to residents of Tameside or the wider community."
She further emphasized that GMP remains committed to addressing incidents of violence, ensuring victim safety, and taking swift action against offenders. The police will continue to patrol the area to provide support while the investigation progresses.
The police are appealing for anyone with additional information to come forward.
