Police have released footage of a stumbling drink driver, Sarah Liggett from Oldham, who was found to be nearly six times over the legal limit after stopping on the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire.
The incident occurred around 2pm on Thursday, December 19, following reports of a crash. Officers arrived at the scene and helped Liggett out of her car, which was stopped in a live lane.
Suspecting she was over the drink drive limit, police breathalysed her in the back of a police vehicle. The results indicated a blood alcohol level of 191 micrograms, significantly higher than the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
In the footage, Liggett can be heard asking the officer for a moment to compose herself, to which the officer responded, "No, come on. We are in the middle of the motorway, pet. Come on." At one point, she fell to the ground and had to be assisted by the officers.
Liggett later refused to provide a blood specimen for analysis at the police station. On Friday, she pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates' Court to failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
As a result, she was issued an interim driving ban pending her sentencing hearing scheduled for February 17 at Barnsley Magistrates' Court. The police released the footage to raise awareness about the dangers of drink driving as the festive season approaches.
