Incident Overview: A gang of armed thugs shocked the community when they left Samuel Adesanya with a bullet in his chest during a brutal attack at a house in Salford.
CCTV Evidence: Just moments before the shooting, up to seven masked men were captured on CCTV outside the property, brandishing 'fearsome' weapons, including machetes and 'zombie' knives.
Conviction Details: Three men have been convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The convicted individuals are:
These individuals were cleared of attempted murder and did not provide evidence during the trial.
Judge's Statement: During sentencing, Judge Timothy Smith described the attack as "carefully planned, concerted and coordinated." He emphasized the shared intention to cause serious injury to someone in the house.
Motive Analysis: A pre-sentence report suggested that the attack was a form of 'revenge' for Mr. Adesanya allegedly stealing a bicycle. Judge Smith rejected this claim, insisting that the intention was to cause Mr. Adesanya serious injury, not merely to send a message.
Details of the Attack: At approximately 9:28 PM on May 26, the three defendants, along with four others, arrived outside the residence in Little Hulton in a stolen Vauxhall Insignia. According to prosecutor David Tempkin KC, most of the males were armed, with one of them wielding a loaded firearm.
The defendants were seen shouting and banging on windows, using their weapons to smash glass. This was a deliberate attempt to intimidate those inside. Mr. Adesanya, a visitor at the house, was shot while in the hallway.
It was reported that "the bullet likely remains inside his body today," and it was noted that Mr. Adesanya did not cooperate with the police investigation.
Aftermath: The Vauxhall Insignia was discovered on fire half an hour later, having been driven with false number plates, and the blaze was started deliberately. CCTV captured Gregory with the false number plates found on the vehicle. In a house in Farnworth, police later recovered the firearm used in the shooting.
Prosecutor Tempkin described a search of the location where the gun was found, detailing that they discovered bags of cash and a firearm concealed within an orange bag in an outbuilding.
A bullet casing retrieved from the shooting scene was analyzed, confirming it matched the weapon used in the attack.
Defence Mitigation: In mitigating for Harrison, his counsel noted his admission of being present and armed with a hammer. Harrison’s involvement in drug dealing was linked to a debt he had incurred. For Gregory, it was noted he had previous convictions and "associates with those who are more criminally sophisticated." Humphreys’ representative mentioned his genuine remorse and shame over the incident.
Sentencing: The sentences handed down were as follows:
Additionally, Harrison pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs, while Gregory admitted to possession of an offensive weapon and involvement in the supply of class B drugs.
