Salford Man Jailed for Domestic Assault

Bradley Norton, a 30-year-old man from Salford, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison following a violent attack on his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Norton, who had a history of abusive behavior, threatened, "I will kill you before I go back to prison," before physically assaulting her.

The initial incident occurred during March 2022 in their shared accommodation. Following a heated argument, the woman attempted to leave but was repeatedly prevented by Norton. As she tried to escape down the stairs, he struck her on the back of the head, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.

Months later, after moving together to a flat on Gerald Road in Salford, Norton attacked her again amidst his drinking and drug use. The victim, then 21 weeks pregnant, was pinned down and hit with her own phone when she threatened to contact the police. This egregious act led the victim to encounter difficulties breathing and further injuries.

Norton, already with three previous convictions for similar offenses, faced the Manchester Crown Court where the prosecution highlighted his history of drug and alcohol abuse. The court was informed of his minimal attempts to take responsibility for his actions.

Judge Sarah Johnston noted the relationship was severely affected by Norton's substance abuse and aggressive behavior. Consequently, in addition to his prison sentence, Norton received a 5-year restraining order.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
