On Friday, April 4, chaos erupted on Market Street in Manchester city centre as police were called to the scene of a mass brawl involving youths.
Crowds gathered outside Marks and Spencer, with many filming the incident on their phones. Reports indicated that disorder continued into Saturday, prompting further police response.
On Saturday, April 5, Greater Manchester Police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has since been bailed as investigations continue.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify additional suspects involved in the fights.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated: "Our officers were called to reports of disorder on Friday and Saturday evening in Manchester city centre. Groups of youths had gathered, leading to reports of fights."
They added, "We responded quickly to disperse the crowds. Dispersal orders were authorized on both nights, and we will maintain an increased presence throughout the Easter holidays."
The spokesperson reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring public safety, stating, "The city centre is a public place to be enjoyed safely by everyone, and our officers are here to ensure that happens."
