An inquest opening revealed that police are actively investigating the death and identity of a mystery woman whose body was found at Chorlton Water Park. The woman was discovered in the River Mersey on March 21 of this year by a dog walker. Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.
Efforts to identify the woman include DNA testing, public appeals, and a facial reconstruction, yet her identity remains unknown. During the inquest at Manchester Coroner's Court on December 18, Coroner Zak Golombeck stated that Greater Manchester Police have requested the inquest remain open while they pursue various lines of enquiry.
Coroner Golombeck noted, "There have been numerous attempts to identify the body of this female. A forensic post mortem examination including DNA anthropology was conducted, but currently, there is no identification."
The police recently released facial reconstruction images and items of clothing worn by the woman, including a lime green Primark top and New Look jeans. The court was informed that the medical cause of death was unascertained, with the pathologist unable to determine if she entered the water alive or was deceased prior to that.
The inquest has been adjourned to allow police to continue their enquiries.
