In a dramatic case at Manchester Crown Court, Emmanuel Onasanya and Rumaal Ingram face charges related to the death of Zikel Bobmanuel. Ingram has already admitted to manslaughter, but both deny the murder charges against them.
The court heard that a lethal altercation arose from a dispute over a pair of trainers. Prosecutors allege that Emmanuel Onasanya, who was owed money, solicited help from Ingram. The confrontation occurred on March 25 in Openshaw, where Ingram allegedly shot Zikel Bobmanuel, with the bullet tragically ricocheting and hitting him in the neck.
During police interviews, Emmanuel Onasanya described his intimidation by Ingram, highlighting the fear that led him to drive away from the scene. He stated he had only intended to reclaim the money and deliver the trainers, not realizing a violent turn of events would occur.
The conflict reportedly escalated when Zikel Bobmanuel sent a series of threatening messages, prompting a meeting where the situation spiraled out of control. Onasanya recounted the incident, detailing how Ingram reached for a gun, leaving him in shock as Mr. Bobmanuel was injured.
After the incident, Emmanuel Onasanya reported returning to the scene and contacting law enforcement, stating he acted under duress and played no part in planning the tragic events.
The trial continues, with both defendants maintaining their innocence in the face of the serious charges.
