Murder Trial Begins After Shane Maloney's Death

A man accused of murder is on trial after allegedly attacking Shane Maloney with a bottle, resulting in a severe brain injury leading to his death 16 months later.

The incident occurred on Wigan Road, Leigh, and the accused, Dean Hughes, is facing charges at Manchester Crown Court. Prosecutor Michael Brady KC detailed the events of November 8, 2019, when Maloney was found unconscious with a head injury at the back of the property.

Hughes was reportedly involved in an altercation with Maloney, which escalated, leading to serious injuries. Video footage played in court showed Hughes expressing anger during the incident.
