On the morning of January 22, a tragic mass stabbing occurred in Aschaffenburg, Germany, resulting in the deaths of a man and a child, with several others injured.
The incident took place around 11:45am in Schöntal Park. In response, police quickly apprehended a suspect near the scene and have since restricted access to a large area of the city.
Traffic in the vicinity has been halted. According to German publication BILD, there are no additional suspects being sought in relation to the attack.
Police reassured the public through a post on social media, stating that there is no ongoing threat. They confirmed the details, saying: "According to the current situation, a knife attack took place at around 11:45 a.m. in Schöntal Park, in which two people were fatally injured. The suspect was arrested in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene."
An eyewitness reported to Main-Echo that the suspect was taken into custody "in a headlock." Another source, NiUS, indicated that the suspect had tried to evade capture by attempting to flee along railway tracks, prompting authorities to suspend local rail and road traffic.
Railway operators have announced that train services to and from Aschaffenburg are currently on hold, affecting both regional and long-distance travel.
