On Thursday, 6 February 2025, a police investigation was launched in Manchester after pro-Palestine protesters vandalized the Quoin building on Quay Street, opposite the Opera House theatre.
Reports of criminal damage were received early in the morning, around 3.50am, when Greater Manchester Police arrived at the scene. Initial inquiries revealed that a group of individuals approached the building and vandalized it by throwing red paint at it.
Images from the scene, captured by the Manchester Evening News, show windows and a glass door of the building covered in red paint, with one door cracked. Unconfirmed reports also mentioned the possible use of a fire extinguisher during the incident.
Palestine Action, the protest group, shared images on its social media, depicting the aftermath and a police officer present on-site. They stated that their target was the offices of a company located in the Quoin building.
This incident is part of a broader series of similar vandalism occurrences in Manchester city centre and other parts of the UK, with Palestine Action describing these actions as 'direct action protests'.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed, "We're investigating a report of criminal damage at a premises on Quay Street, Manchester at 3.50am this morning." They added that inquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible for the vandalism.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and no further details about the investigation have been released.
