Lucy Letby Retrial Announced for Attempted Murder Charge

Lucy Letby is scheduled to face a retrial on one count of attempted murder, a decision made after jurors failed to reach a verdict on this charge.

Letby, aged 33, was previously convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital during 2015 and 2016. She received a whole life sentence last month following these convictions.

Following a hearing on September 25 at Manchester Crown Court, prosecutors declared their intention to seek a retrial for the outstanding attempted murder charge.

The retrial is provisionally scheduled for June 10, 2024. Letby, appearing via videolink from HMP Newhall, continues to deny all charges and has formally lodged an appeal against her previous convictions with the Court of Appeal earlier this month.
