Liverpool vs Manchester City: Premier League Match Report

On December 1, a significant Premier League match took place between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield, which saw nine men arrested for alleged tragedy chanting.

Merseyside Police made these arrests following the match, which is classified as a public order offence. One man has been formally charged and is set to appear in court.

Kian Holt, a 19-year-old from Weeton Road, Medlar-with-Wesham in Lancashire, has been charged under S3 of the Football Offence Act 1991 for engaging in tragedy chanting. His court appearance is scheduled for January 8, 2025, at Sefton Magistrates Court.

Additionally, officers detained several other suspects: a 38-year-old man from Audenshaw, a 32-year-old from Macclesfield, a 52-year-old from Denton, a 57-year-old from Failsworth, and a 53-year-old from Manchester, all under suspicion of tragedy chanting. Another suspect, a 28-year-old from Prestwich, was arrested for tragedy chanting and common assault.

All six of these suspects have been granted bail. Two men from Rochdale, aged 47 and 58, were also arrested on suspicion of tragedy chanting but have since been released by Merseyside Police for voluntary attendance.

On the pitch, Liverpool emerged victorious, defeating Manchester City 2-0, with goals from Cody Gakpo in the first half and a penalty from Mohammed Salah in the second half. This defeat marked City’s fourth consecutive loss, dropping them to fifth place, trailing leaders Liverpool by 11 points.
