On Saturday night, a Lamborghini supercar was seized by Greater Manchester Police in Manchester city centre due to insurance issues observed during routine patrol checks.
The officers discovered that the vehicle was not properly insured, leading to the seizure. A post shared on social media displayed the luxurious black car parked in the city centre, visibly marked with a large sticker on the rear window stating: "NO INSURANCE" and "SEIZED BY POLICE."
According to a statement from Greater Manchester Police, they spotted the vehicle and decided to conduct checks, ultimately revealing that the driver was not in compliance with their insurance policy. The vehicle was noted as "Vehicle seized #165" and the driver was reported.
In the UK, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle without adequate insurance. Each driver must maintain an appropriate insurance policy for every vehicle they intend to drive, even if only temporarily.
Penalties for failing to have proper insurance include a fixed fine of £300, along with the potential of six points added to the driver's licence, as indicated by gov.uk.
In more serious situations, offenders could face court proceedings, which may result in unlimited fines and driving disqualifications.
Furthermore, the police are empowered to seize vehicles lacking appropriate insurance, and in severe cases, there is a possibility of the court ordering the vehicle's destruction.
