Tyron Riley's family has finally seen some justice after a long wait. The father of three was tragically found stabbed in a Salford park. The incident happened on the night of December 26, 2022, and the case was reviewed at the Manchester Crown Court.
In court, Bradley Waters, 18, admitted to perverting the course of justice. Despite claiming self-defence in Tyron's death, no murder or manslaughter charges were brought against him. This week, Tyron's family spoke out about their immense loss during his sentencing.
Tyron's mother, Nicola Derbyshire, tearfully read her victim impact statement, describing the grief she faced since losing her son on December 26, 2022. She expressed the struggles of explaining to Tyron's three young children that their father would never come home again.
The pain of losing Tyron was exacerbated by the investigation, which delayed the family’s grieving process. Nicola, during the trial, confronted Waters, expressing her frustration at unanswered questions due to destroyed evidence.
The family is upset that Waters was only charged with perverting the course of justice rather than more severe charges. Tyron, remembered as a devoted father and hard-working family man, will never watch his children grow up.
The case details revealed that Tyron was found by passers-by at Clarendon Park with a fatal stab wound. Waters, who was later arrested, claimed self-defence, saying he struggled with Tyron over a knife. He attempted to hide evidence by discarding the knife in the River Irwell.
Judge Nicholas Dean KC sentenced Waters to five years. While the family continues to seek answers and justice for Tyron, the court proceedings have brought some closure to their painful journey.
