High-speed Police Chase in Cheshire and Greater Manchester

A man was arrested after a high-speed police chase through Cheshire and Greater Manchester. The suspect, who was subsequently released on bail, faced several charges.

Police in Cheshire attempted to stop a blue BMW on Bridge Street in Warrington at around 2.45am on Thursday, September 26, after the vehicle was seen ignoring a no entry sign. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated away.

Officers pursued the car through several roads in the town center, reaching speeds of 70mph in 30mph residential zones. During the chase, two police vehicles were rammed.

The pursuit continued, with the BMW crossing into Leigh, Greater Manchester, after having its tires deflated by a stinger device on Lovely Lane. The driver, however, kept going, narrowly missing parked cars.

The chase ended on Devon Street, near Leigh Cemetery, where the driver tried to flee on foot but was apprehended.

The arrested individual, a 27-year-old man from Tyldesley, faced charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop, drug driving, and possession of cannabis. Cheshire Police updated that he has since been released on bail.

Chief Inspector John Forshaw of Cheshire Police's Roads and Crime Unit applauded the teamwork of different units in arresting the suspect, who disregarded public safety.

"The pursuit, which spanned two police jurisdictions, was managed thanks to the coordinated effort, resulting in the vehicle's tires being deflated to safely reduce speed and bring the chase to a close," said Inspector Forshaw.

"This incident should remind everyone that committing crimes in Cheshire will lead to arrest and prosecution," he added.
