Two men have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Daniel Poole and his son Liam, who disappeared in Spain five years ago. The father and son from Sussex were last seen in Malaga in 2019.
Today, Sussex Police confirmed the arrests of a man in his 30s from West Sussex and a man in his 40s from Merseyside, both on suspicion of their murders. They have since been questioned and released under investigation pending further inquiries.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and are offering a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and charge of anyone responsible for Danny and Liam's disappearance. Detective Chief Inspector Simon Dunn stated, "Although Danny and Liam went missing in Spain, we believe there are people in the UK who may hold vital information about their disappearance."
He encouraged anyone with information, even small details, to come forward as it could be crucial in understanding what happened to the father and son.
Danny and Liam, from Burgess Hill, hired a grey Peugeot 308 (registration 0254 KTM) upon arriving in Spain on March 31, 2019. The vehicle was never returned and was later found abandoned by Spanish police. Their belongings, including luggage and passports, were left in their hotel, indicating their disappearance was unplanned.
Initially, Spanish police led the investigation, but in 2022, Sussex Police decided to treat the case as a murder investigation. Legal steps are now underway for the Surrey and Sussex Police Major Crime Team to take over the investigation from the Spanish authorities.
Families of Danny and Liam have been informed and are urging anyone with information to step forward.
