Cornelius Price: Mobster History & Grave Details

Mobster Cornelius Price, suspected of multiple murders, was buried in Rochdale Cemetery following a secret ceremony two years ago. Price, who had been heavily involved in organized crime, died from a brain disease on February 19, 2023.

Price's passing raised concerns due to his suspected involvement in at least four murders, including those of Willie Maughan and his pregnant partner, Ana Varslavane. It is believed he fled to the UK in 2020 amid escalating gang violence in Drogheda, County Louth, where he had familial ties in Rochdale and Manchester.

Initially, his grave remained unmarked, but recently it has been adorned with lavish tributes, which included floral arrangements and an extravagant headstone, ahead of the second anniversary of his death. His grave now features large stone statuettes of lurchers and a hare, along with a stone shaped like a love heart that bears his engraved face.

The foot of the grave is inscribed with the words 'Our warrior, Simply the Best' and showcases images of Price flexing his muscles. Adornments such as large bunches of flowers also embellish his grave.

Price, aged 41 at his death, was linked to the turmoil of the Drogheda feud, which has resulted in numerous fatalities. Willie and Ana went missing on April 14, 2015, while living in a caravan at Price's Gormanston compound. They were reportedly planning to return to Willie's family home on the day of their disappearance.

Authorities suspect that the couple may have had crucial information regarding the gang's illegal activities, specifically the murder of Benny Whitehouse in November 2014, who was allegedly killed due to a dispute over the drugs trade. Price has denied any involvement in these crimes.

The couple's remains are believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in north County Dublin. A four-day search last November, prompted by new information, was conducted on bogland adjacent to land owned by Price, but no significant evidence was found.

Joe Maughan, Willie's father, expressed hope that 2023 might prove fruitful in finding his son and Ana. He shared his belief that someone may eventually come forward with information that could provide closure for their families:

"Hopefully this will be the year we find Willie and Anna. I feel 100 percent confident that someone might give us the information where they are and clear their conscience."

"I feel some people will find it in their hearts to clear their conscience and come clean so we can finally give Willie and Anna a proper burial."

After the horrific murder of Drogheda teenager Keane Mulready-Woods in 2020, Price fled to the UK, as his gang sought revenge on those they believed responsible, including the now-deceased mobster Robbie Lawlor.
