Community Supports Ibrar Hussain after Car Crash

Neighbours have come together to support Ibrar Hussain, 43, who was left traumatised after a car crashed into his home on Harrop Street, Abbey Hey on Saturday morning, January 25.

Mr. Hussain was in bed when the incident occurred. Fortunately, he was unharmed, and his five-year-old son was not present as he was at his mother's house.

Since the crash, Mr. Hussain has been staying in a hostel and struggling to cope with sleeplessness, attributing his distress to trauma. "I think it's trauma," he stated to the M.E.N..

In a show of community spirit, a neighbour has launched an online fundraiser to help Mr. Hussain rebuild his house. This effort began after another neighbour noticed Mr. Hussain feeling 'freezing' outside and invited him in for tea, biscuits, and even prepared some daal for him.

Mr. Hussain expressed gratitude for the community's support: "The community has been amazing," he remarked. "I was in the rubble yesterday to see what's been done and to secure some things so I can go inside for a bit. People came and they brought food. They dropped a few things. So it's amazing to be honest."

This incident comes less than four years after a similar crash occurred at another property on Harrop Street. Mr. Hussain recalled that repairs took 16 months for that house, and he worries he may not receive adequate assistance as a homeowner.

On January 27, Mr. Hussain returned to his home to salvage belongings, though the house remains cordoned off. "I became quite upset when I saw my son's toys and they were all broken up," he shared. "He was asking what happened to my bedroom."

Mr. Hussain, who planned to sell his house, did not have buildings insurance due to financial constraints. He revealed that multiple rooms were damaged, and the main wall would need to be demolished, with an estimated repair cost of £60,000.

A GoFundMe page initiated by Anisah Chaudhry aims to raise £25,000. The page states: "Ibrar is a very hard-working and caring member of the community and always comes to support and help whoever he can. It’s come as a shock to him to accept that such an incident has changed his life so drastically in seconds. Unfortunately, he was not fully covered by insurance at this moment."

"We are trying to raise awareness and bring about support to help him with whatever we can. All funds will go toward rebuilding and replacing whatever we can. We greatly appreciate the support and really would love to show how communities come together and unite in moments of need."

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that a 19-year-old man was arrested following the crash. An update on January 26 confirmed that he is facing charges of burglary and aggravated vehicle taking and was scheduled to appear in court on January 27.

Dylan Jewell, 19, of Warrington Road, Wigan, is set to appear at Crown Square on March 3.
