Burglary Incident at Tesco Express Irlam - Police Response

Date: February 13, 2025

Location: Tesco Express, Liverpool Road, Irlam, Salford

Greater Manchester Police have issued an apology to residents in Irlam and Cadishead after deploying a helicopter early this morning in response to a burglary.

Officers were called to the scene at 4:15 AM following reports of a break-in at the Tesco Express store. Two men, aged 41 and 24, were arrested at the location and are currently in custody.

The shop was closed at the time of the incident, and police were seen boarding up a window and cordoning off the area.

Numerous residents reported hearing the police helicopter overhead during the early hours. At least two GMP vans were also present outside the store.

In a statement on the Salford Police Facebook account, GMP expressed their regrets for the disturbance, with one resident noting that the noise could be heard as far away as Swinton.

GMP stated, "We apologise for the early morning wake up in Irlam and Cadishead this morning, as our Police helicopter helped us following a burglary at Tesco on Liverpool Road. Two male adults have been arrested for burglary and remain in custody."

A spokesperson from Tesco added, "Our Liverpool Road Irlam Express store is now open and trading as normal following a brief closure earlier this morning. We apologise for the inconvenience."
