Brutal Attack in Bury Town Centre: Mac Goldworthy & Daniel Flanagan

In a shocking incident, two friends, Mac Goldworthy and Daniel Flanagan, were brutally attacked by a gang of teenagers while walking home in Bury town centre.

On Saturday, December 21, around 4 am, after a night out watching the Tyson Fury fight and visiting a nightclub, the pair were confronted by 'seven or eight' thugs on Broad Street.

Mac, 28, from Radcliffe, described the harrowing experience, stating he was left in 'agony' with significant 'lumps and bruises' on his back and face. Following the vicious beating, he was rushed to the hospital for a CT scan, which fortunately found no serious injuries.

Mac recounted: "We were just walking down the street. Next thing we saw them circling. All of a sudden they charged at us. We were a bit worse for wear. They were chasing us down the street."

He continued, "I ended up on the floor with my hands over my head getting kicked in. I managed to get up and get away then they got me again. I was curled up in a ball on the floor just getting kicked from every angle. Luckily, the police turned up straight away." Mac suffered extensive injuries, including a severe black eye and a split eyebrow that required gluing.

Struggling with the aftermath, he added, "I've hardly been out of bed since it happened. I've been in agony. I've not wanted to leave the house."

Daniel, 31, from Heywood, also shared his experience, saying: "We were walking towards the bus station when we heard a commotion behind us. We turned around and they just ran at us." He noted that one of the attackers mentioned they would be kicked out of college for their actions, indicating their youth.

Daniel, who sustained injuries to his back and ribs but did not seek hospital treatment, emphasized the unprovoked nature of the attack, stating, "It was scary. It was completely unprovoked. It’s not like it was one or two of them - it was seven or eight."

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and one suspect has been arrested, though details regarding the suspect's age or gender have not been disclosed.
