A 31-year-old mother, Charlotte Benson, claims she was "brutally attacked" by a bouncer during a girls' holiday in Benidorm on March 28, while she was celebrating with five colleagues.
Charlotte alleges she was violently shoved across the dancefloor and stomped on multiple times, leading to internal and external bruising and a concussion. She suspects the assault could have been a case of mistaken identity.
After the incident, she expressed her anger and anxiety, stating she never wants to leave her house again. "I thought it was game over; he was just going to beat me to near death," she said.
Prior to the incident, the group had enjoyed a pleasant evening that included drinks on the beach, dinner at a curry restaurant, and dancing at a bar that featured nostalgic music. Charlotte described the atmosphere as friendly and safe until the unprovoked attack occurred.
Following the attack, Charlotte fled the bar with the help of a bystander and later sought medical attention. However, she criticized the Spanish police for their response, describing it as "appalling." She recounted how she was told to report the incident the following day, and a paramedic questioningly asked, "What did you do to deserve this?"
Charlotte returned to the UK after filing a report at the airport's police office, where she was disheartened to find the local police station closed over the weekend. She also mentioned losing money during the incident, but stressed that it wasn't about the money and that she felt disregarded as a victim.
Charlotte warned potential travelers about the risks and the lack of support in Benidorm, emphasizing that her experience is not isolated. "This is a warning to others that they should be aware of the danger," she said.
The pub did not offer a comment on the incident. However, they stated on their Facebook page that while busy clubs can have problems that are generally manageable, circumstances can sometimes escalate, reflecting on the need for a balanced perspective in such situations.
