Detectives have initiated a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman's body at a flat in Bolton.
A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody for questioning.
The investigation commenced after police received reports of a concern for welfare at Furness Square, off Glaisdale Close, Tonge Moor, around 10:15 AM on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they found the body of a 59-year-old woman inside the property, which appears to be part of a retirement complex.
Authorities have characterized the death as an "isolated incident with no threat to the wider community."
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Turner stated: "The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim's family at this time. We are committed to getting answers for them and establishing what occurred."
"I understand that people will be concerned upon hearing the news of what has transpired, but I would like to reassure you that we have several additional resources dedicated to this investigation. We are treating this as a murder case and are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry."
