Axel Rudakubana Sentencing Hearing: Details of Southport Murders

During the sentencing hearing today, it was revealed that child killer Axel Rudakubana made a disturbing call to Childline years prior to the murders in Southport, asking, "What should I do if I want to kill somebody?"

Rudakubana, 18, pleaded guilty to the murders of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar. The tragic incidents occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party at The Hart Space in Merseyside on July 29 of the previous year.

In addition to the murders, Rudakubana also pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of eight other children, as well as Leanne Lucas and Jonathan Hayes.

During the hearing, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC presented the facts to the presiding judge, Mr. Justice Goose. Rudakubana was removed from the hearing twice after claiming illness and demanding a paramedic.

Ms. Heer informed the court that Rudakubana, originally from Cardiff, moved with his family to Southport in 2013 and became a pupil at The Range High School in Formby in 2017.

The court heard that on October 4, 2019, Rudakubana contacted Childline with concerns about his violent thoughts, expressing anger towards a school bully. He admitted to bringing a knife to school, stating he would only use it if provoked.

The prosecutor detailed that due to issues at home, Rudakubana stopped attending school in May 2021. In March 2022, he was placed at Presfield High School but did not attend. On March 17, 2022, during a missing person report, police found him with a small kitchen knife. He claimed he wanted to stab someone to attract police attention, hoping they would close down his TikTok account that contained embarrassing videos.

Furthermore, Rudakubana expressed thoughts of poisoning people and attempted to create poison for the same reasons.

The court also revealed Rudakubana's past convictions, including assault and possession of an offensive weapon related to an incident at his previous school. On December 11, 2019, he attacked another pupil with a hockey stick, during which a kitchen knife was discovered in his backpack.

He was charged, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and received a referral order. Additionally, Rudakubana admitted to possessing a knife on the day of the murders, which he purchased on Amazon, and to producing ricin, a biological toxin, prior to July 29.

The terrorism-related charge involves possession of a PDF document titled "Military Studies In The Jihad Against The Tyrants, The Al Qaeda Training Manual," which he held between August 29, 2021, and July 30, 2024. The sentencing hearing is ongoing.
