Attempted Murder Trial Involving Rival Biker Gangs

A 29-year-old man, Aiden Broadhurst, has denied plotting to kill a 16-year-old in a trial for attempted murder in Manchester. The incident occurred amid a feud between gangs linked to Eccles and a rival group.

Prosecutors allege that Kyle Meighan, 31, fired two shots at the teenager while being driven on a motorbike at around 2:10 pm on Sunday, March 19. One bullet hit the teenager's shoulder, narrowly missing his spine.

The trial at Manchester Crown Court involves Broadhurst, Meighan, and three others: Philip Broadhurst, 27; Jieh Sufyaan, 35; and Andrew Whiteside, 29, all pleading not guilty to attempted murder.

Aiden Broadhurst testified that he had a longstanding interest in motorbikes and was visiting his mother on Boddington Street for Mother’s Day when the incident occurred. He claimed Jieh Sufyaan offered to sell him a motorbike, which Andrew Whiteside brought by later. Broadhurst admitted taking the bike for a test drive to a nearby petrol station.

Meighan reportedly asked Broadhurst for a ride to his mother's house in Ordsall. Broadhurst insisted he was unaware of the teenager on the rival motorbike until approaching from behind on Armitage Street and denied having seen or known about any firearms.

Witnessing the shooting, Broadhurst explained he was in shock when Meighan shot at the motorbike, leading him to return the motorbike to a location near Whiteside’s home. He returned to his mother’s house, still unaware of the teenager’s injury.

The case continues with the jury hearing that most defendants, except Whiteside, participated in a clay pigeon shooting event on March 22, the day the injured teenager left the hospital.

All defendants, including Broadhurst from Salford, Meighan from Ordsall, and others, deny attempted murder and a secondary charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
