30 Years Later: Sisters of Lindsay Rimer Plead for Justice

The sisters of murdered schoolgirl Lindsay Rimer have made a heartfelt plea for assistance in capturing her killer after 30 years, stating: "End this now."

Appearing on Crimewatch Live, Lindsay's sisters, Kate and Juliet, expressed hope that someone with information might finally come forward to help bring her murderer to justice.

Kate shared: "We feel that the killer of my sister has been free for 30 years and we've had a prison sentence of 30 years of grief."

Lindsay was just 13 when she vanished on the evening of 7 November 1994 in Hebden Bridge. Her body was discovered five months later, weighed down by a large rock in the Rochdale Canal, approximately two miles from the town centre.

Despite ongoing efforts, her killer remains at large, leaving her family desperate for answers.

Kate described Lindsay as a typical teenager who was blossoming into early womanhood and noted how incredibly loving she was.

Juliet, who was an infant at the time of Lindsay's murder, shared that although she never knew her sister personally, she has come to understand what kind of person Lindsay was through her school books and letters.

Kate and Juliet have spoken on Crimewatch about Lindsay's murder

Juliet reflected: "Lindsay was a sister that I never knew. Me and Kate have been going through her memory boxes; it really stands out that she was a warm, welcoming and cherished friend."

"She was really funny and bubbly. She had just started making plans with her best friend to see their favourite bands like the Prodigy—something she never got to do."

Kate recounted the moment their family realised Lindsay had gone missing:

"The newsagents called our home saying she hadn't turned up for her paper round. My parents found her bag and school money still in the kitchen. They rushed upstairs only to discover she hadn’t returned home from going out to the shop. That’s when they called the police—everything changed from there."
Lindsay had gone to the local shop to buy Cornflakes prior to her going missing

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle from West Yorkshire Police detailed events leading up to Lindsay's disappearance. Just before 10pm on November 7, 1994, Lindsay noticed there were no cornflakes at home for breakfast and decided to walk to a local shop in Hebden Bridge.

She briefly visited the Trades Club where her mother Geri was socialising with friends before heading up Crown Street into Spar shop where CCTV captured her buying cornflakes.

Two individuals disembarking from a bus reported seeing Lindsay near the entrance of Memorial Garden—the last confirmed sighting of her alive.

DCI Entwistle confirmed that while arrests have been made over the years, they are still no closer to uncovering what truly happened. He mentioned that a new police team along with a new senior investigating officer (SIO) has taken charge of the case: "But it's still about relentlessly pursuing what happened to Lindsay."

He appealed during Crimewatch Live for anyone with information regarding Lindsay’s case or knowledge about her killer to step forward: "Has this been weighing on your conscience for 30 years? You may not have harmed Lindsay but perhaps you were present."

"There are indications more than one person could be involved; possibly even a vehicle. If you played any role in this situation that's burdened you all these years—now is your chance to speak up."
Kate added: "If you know something you have a moral obligation to come forward and end this—it’s time."
